Tau Gamma Phi Urges Members to Surrender in Cavite Hazing Death

The Tau Gamma Phi fraternity has urged its members allegedly involved in the fatal hazing of 19-year-old maritime student Mark Kenneth Alcedo to surrender to authorities. The fraternity also assured the government of its full cooperation in bringing those responsible to justice.

Hazing Incident and Investigation

Mark Kenneth Alcedo, a first-year student at the Philippine Nautical and Technological College (PNTC), died on March 1, 2026, following initiation rites conducted by the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity in Cavite Manila Bulletin. Authorities are currently seeking 17 to 21 individuals identified as suspects or persons of interest in connection with Alcedo’s death News USA Today.

Calls for Surrender and Cooperation

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla demanded the immediate surrender of the 21 fraternity members linked to Alcedo’s death. Remulla warned that authorities would pursue those responsible and emphasized that there would be no extrajudicial killings in the investigation Manila Bulletin.

Tau Gamma Phi spokesman Martin Asturias stated the fraternity is assisting authorities in all aspects of the investigation and is urging implicated members to turn themselves in to the nearest police station Inquirer.net.

Details of the Incident

Alcedo was brought to a hospital in General Trias, Cavite, by three unidentified men who claimed he was a victim of a hit-and-run. Hospital staff discovered marks of torture, leading them to suspect hazing. The men fled in a Mitsubishi Mirage, which was later found abandoned Manila Bulletin.
