Jakarta and Tangerang Submerged as Heavy Rains Trigger Widespread Flooding
Jakarta and its surrounding areas, including Tangerang, are grappling with widespread flooding following a night of heavy rainfall. As of Sunday, March 8, 2026, hundreds of locations are inundated, disrupting daily life and prompting authorities to issue warnings to residents.
Extent of the Flooding
The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that 39 neighborhood units (RT) and 13 roads in Jakarta are currently flooded as of early Sunday morning. Water levels vary, ranging from 20 centimeters to a maximum of 1.5 meters in Pela Mampang Village, South Jakarta.
In West Jakarta, flooding has affected 19 neighborhood units across several villages:
- Kedaung Kali Angke Village: 4 neighborhood units (water depth: 60-70 cm)
- South Kedoya Village: 4 neighborhood units (water depth: 30 cm)
- North Kedoya Village: 4 neighborhood units (water depth: 20 cm)
- South Sukabumi Village: 2 neighborhood units (water depth: 120 cm)
- Joglo Village: 1 neighborhood unit (water depth: 65 cm)
- South Kembangan Village: 2 neighborhood units (water depth: 50 cm)
- North Kembangan Village: 2 neighborhood units (water depth: 60 cm)
South Jakarta is also significantly impacted, with 20 neighborhood units flooded:
- West Cilandak Village: 1 neighborhood unit (water depth: 120 cm)
- Kelurahan North Cipete: 3 neighborhood units (water depth: 100 cm)
- Petogogan Village: 12 neighborhood units (water depth: 20 cm)
- Pela Mampang Village: 1 neighborhood unit (water depth: 150 cm)
- Duren Tiga Village: 1 neighborhood unit (water depth: 50 cm)
- East Cilandak Village: 2 neighborhood units (water depth: 120 cm)
Authorities have confirmed that 13 roads in Jakarta are also flooded.
Tangerang Faces Severe Flooding
The situation is equally dire in Tangerang, where nine sub-districts are experiencing severe flooding due to the continuous rainfall since Saturday . Water levels have reached as high as 1.5 meters in Kecamatan Periuk, paralyzing mobility in several key areas, including Jalan Utama Mutiara Pluit, Jalan Utama Danau Situ Bulakan, Jalan Duta Perum Taman Cibodas, and Jembatan Alamanda.
Local authorities have activated evacuation posts and are deploying personnel to assist with evacuations and optimize water pumping systems.
Impact and Response
The heavy rains have also caused disruptions in transportation, with reports of dozens of motorbikes stalling on Jalan Ceger Raya in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, as riders attempted to navigate floodwaters approximately 50 centimeters deep .
Residents in both Jakarta and Tangerang are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the situation continues to evolve. The Jakarta BPBD is actively mitigating the impact of the flooding in affected areas .
