Four Teens Injured in Sandvika Boat Incident
Sandvika, Norway – A rescue operation concluded early Friday morning after a boat carrying four teenagers began taking on water in Sandvika. Three of the individuals are critically injured, while one sustained moderate injuries, according to Roger Aaser, operations manager for the South-East police district.
What Happened?
Police received a report of a disturbance in the Nustad area around 3:00 AM. Initial investigation revealed that someone had set off fireworks. Following tracks from the scene with a police dog led officers west towards Sandvika. Cries for help were then heard, prompting a shift from a search to a rescue operation.
The Rescue
It was determined that four people in their late teens were attempting to navigate Sandvika in a small boat when it began to fill with water. Two of the teens swam to shore, while the other two remained with the boat. Emergency services, including rescue divers, a fire boat, rescue skates, and a rescue helicopter, were dispatched to the scene. All four were rescued, with the two who were in the water being retrieved by rescue crews.
Injuries and Treatment
Three of the four teenagers are currently listed in critical condition. One critically injured individual was transported by rescue helicopter to Ullevål University Hospital in Oslo. The remaining three are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Investigation
The police will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
