Duccio Chiarini Begins Filming “An Italian Hero” in Turin
Filming commenced on February 27, 2026, for “An Italian Hero,” a film directed by Duccio Chiarini, based on an idea by Yousuf Saeid. The film stars Andrea Pennacchi and Enrico Tijani, alongside Valentina Romani and Iaia Forte. Principal photography is scheduled to capture seven weeks in Turin, Italy.
A Comedy with Depth
“An Italian Hero” is Chiarini’s third cinematic directorial effort, following “Short Skin” and “The Guest.” The film is produced by Rosamont, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, and benefits from funding from the PR FESR Piemonte 2021-2027 – “Piemonte Film TV Fund,” as well as support from the Film Commission Torino Piemonte and the FVG Regional Audiovisual Fund.
Rosamont producer Marica Stocchi described the project as a comedy that aims to portray “a fragile and defective humanity, without moralism, with a lot of irony.” She emphasized Chiarini’s ability to bring “poetry, respect and intelligence” to the story.
The Story Behind the Film
Yousuf Saeid, also known as MC Swat, conceived the idea for the film after arriving in Italy eight years ago following his departure from Libya due to the controversial nature of his rap music. Saeid was motivated by a desire to challenge perceptions of migrants, who he felt were often portrayed as either victims or threats, rather than as complex individuals.
Synopsis
The film centers on Aigo (Enrico Tijani), a young migrant determined to obtain the necessary documentation to improve his life, and Antonio (Andrea Pennacchi), a disillusioned, widowed, and misanthropic retired Carabinieri colonel. Their unexpected encounter will challenge their preconceived notions and potentially lead them to connect with one another despite their differences.
