Alyssa Healy Signs Off ODI Career with Record-Breaking Century
Hobart, Australia – Australian cricket captain Alyssa Healy delivered a stunning performance in her final One Day International (ODI) match, scoring 158 runs against India on Sunday. The 35-year-old will retire from all forms of cricket after a Test match against India in Perth, commencing on Friday.
Healy’s Farewell Innings
Healy’s innings was marked by 27 boundaries and two sixes, coming off 98 balls. This achievement marked her eighth ODI century and solidified her place as one of the greatest players in women’s cricket history. Her score is the highest women’s one-day score against India and also the highest women’s one-day international innings in Australia.
Australia Dominates India
Australia posted a formidable total of 409-7 in their 50 overs, ultimately dismissing India for 224, securing a 3-0 series sweep in the ODI leg of the multi-format tour.
A Career of Records
Healy’s career has been punctuated by record-breaking performances. In 2019, she set a then-record for the highest T20I innings with an unbeaten 148 off 61 balls against Sri Lanka. She is now the sixth woman to post two 150-plus scores in ODIs.
Final Test Awaits
Healy has one final opportunity to achieve another milestone – a century in Test cricket. Her highest Test score currently stands at 99, mirroring the highest Test score of her husband, Australian fast-bowling great Mitchell Starc.
Healy Bowls for the First Time in International Career
In a surprising turn of events, Healy also bowled two overs during the match, marking the first time she has bowled in her international career. She finished with figures of 0-12.
