American fists, pepper bombs, batons … These category D weapons, prohibited for sale to minors, circulate freely on social networks, in particular Snapchat, reveals a report of TF1 broadcast on August 13. This illegal market, targeting adolescents, alarms police unions and professionals in the sector.

Dijon: kilos of drugs, weapons and commando equipment seized in a cellar

Ads proliferate on certain platforms, illegally offering equipment whose detention and use are strictly framed by law. Through simple accounts or channels, young people can get these objects in a few clicks, without any age control.

An uncontrolled black market

Traffic “Not being limited to the weapons of category D. if only by the Darknet, you have access to any type of weapon, and in particular weapons of war”warns Fabien Bogais, national union delegate of alliance national police, questioned by LCI. The police alert to the growing circulation of these weapons in the hands of minors, which increases the risk of violence, especially in schools and public spaces. Professional gunsmiths, themselves, denounce online traffic which constitutes unfair competition.

As a reminder, French law authorizes the possession of category D weapons by adults, but their port outside the home requires a legitimate reason, left to the appreciation of the police.
