# Apple’s Ambitious iPhone Redesign: A three-Year Plan
For years,the iPhone design has remained largely unchanged,receiving incremental updates with faster processors and improved cameras. according to analyst Mark Gurman in his August 24, 2025, newsletter, Power On, this is set to change as Apple embarks on an ambitious three-year redesign plan.
## Step 1: iPhone 17 Generation with the iPhone 17 Air
The first phase is expected to begin around September 9, with the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 Air. Sources suggest the iPhone 17 Air’s refined camera design will serve as the foundation for future developments, including the first foldable iPhone planned for next year. Bloomberg confirms key features for the upcoming iPhones, including the same Apple C1 modem in the iPhone 17 Air as in the iPhone 16e. The iPhone 17 Air will also lack a SIM card slot, have below-average battery life, and be available in a light blue color option. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will come in orange,but will not feature significant design changes beyond a larger camera module.
## Step 2: The First Foldable iPhone in 2026
The following year will bring even more significant changes. In 2026, Apple plans to release the “iPhone Fold” (codename V68), the first entirely new iPhone model in years. This device will resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and is expected to feature four cameras: two on the exterior, one on the cover, and one on the interior screen.
