Ballad Health Implements Visitor Restrictions Due to Rising Flu Cases

Johnson City, TN (WCYB) — Ballad Health is taking action to protect patients as flu cases surge in the region. Effective immediately, the health system is restricting visitors at all its facilities.

Visitor Restrictions in Place

The restrictions apply to anyone with flu-like symptoms, individuals under 18 years old, and groups of more than two adults visiting a single patient. Ballad Health emphasizes the importance of these measures to prevent the spread of influenza.

Flu A Dominant Strain

According to Ballad Health officials, Influenza A is the dominant strain circulating in the area. The health system reported a significant increase in cases, with 1,416 documented cases in the week of December 22nd, averaging 202 cases per day. They reported nearly 600 cases in just two days this week and anticipate a continued rise in flu cases.

Exceptions to Visitation Restrictions

Ballad Health acknowledges the importance of loved ones during difficult times and will allow exceptions for end-of-life patients and patients in family birth or Niswonger Children’s Hospital.
