BIC Bizkaia celebrates 25 Years of Fostering Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Strengthening the culture of entrepreneurship and socially recognizing those who undertake it are crucial for valuing this activity. This was emphasized by the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, during the festivity of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the business incubator BIC Bizkaia left.

The incubator, created in 2000, aims to promote the Left Bank as a hub of industrial innovation and solidify commitment to a territory fostering technologically advanced industries and high added value services for Bizkaia and the Basque Contry.

Twenty-five years later, the general deputy of Bizkaia, Elisabete Etxanove, highlighted the incubator’s continued success “thanks to the joint commitment of the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia” through a collaboration that promotes quality employment, attracts talent, and reinforces the region’s position as an innovative territory.

The event, held at the BIC Bizkaia Ezkerraldea facilities in the Ilgner building in Barakaldo, featured a round table with Ainara Basurko (Deputy for Economic promotion), Esther Merino (founder of excellent), Daniel del Río (founder of Bizintek Innova), Rafael Luquín (founder of Luse Engineering), and Mireia Muñiz (founder of Yuït The fair Food Company). These founders represent the 521 startups and 218 projects developed at BIC Bizkaia Ezkerraldea, which have generated 818 jobs and maintain a 38% survival rate.

The Lehendakari acknowledged the “positive results” from the latest report on the Basque Entrepreneurship Observatory, noting an increase in entrepreneurship, innovation, and industry-linked projects within Euskadi. However,he also cautioned about areas needing betterment,such as the gender gap,while affirming that entrepreneurs are “essential to continue building a cohesive,advanced,attractive and competitive Euskadi.”

he underscored the important contribution of entrepreneurs, who create opportunities and take risks for the benefit of the country, and stressed the importance of publicly recognizing and valuing their efforts, alongside further strengthening the culture of entrepreneurship.
