Will Escuderia Telmex continue to sponsor Red Bull Racing? Carlos Slim Domit, president and co-founder of the Mexican racing team, has stated that it’s “not definite” but their commitment to supporting Sergio Perez remains unwavering.

Slim Domit, son of billionaire businessman Carlos Slim, clarified that their backing of Perez is independent of their sponsorship deal with Red Bull. This means Escuderia Telmex’s decision regarding Red Bull sponsorship wouldn’t be directly tied to Perez’s future with the team.

Escuderia Telmex’s Future Support for Red Bull Racing Uncertain

Escuderia Telmex, co-founded by Slim and his father, aims to nurture Latin American drivers’ motorsport aspirations. Perez, undoubtedly, has achieved remarkable global success, becoming a shining example of their efforts.

However, Red Bull’s recent announcement of a multi-year sponsorship extension with AT&T, a direct competitor of Telmex in Mexico, has cast uncertainty over Escuderia Telmex’s future as a Red Bull sponsor. Despite ongoing negotiations, Slim Jr. admitted that their sponsorship status remains uncertain.

Regardless, Slim emphasized their continued commitment to Perez. If Perez leaves Red Bull, Escuderia Telmex will continue to support his racing career, mirroring their past practice of supporting drivers across various teams.

“We are talking with the team, we are still in talks, it is not definite, but the one we will always intend to continue with is Checo,” Slim told ESPN in Mexico City.

“As far as we can always with him [Perez], without a doubt.

“The issue of Checo’s contract is independent of the issue of sponsorship for us, it has always been like that since he signed with the team, but if there was no longer the opportunity to continue with the team we would certainly continue with Checo.

“The intention is to continue with Checo, wherever he is, we will be with him.

“Many times we have been with many drivers, we were with Bruno Senna, we were with Pietro Fittipaldi and we were with the two Mexican drivers with Checo and Esteban [Gutiérrez].

“We are always looking to support Latin American drivers, Franco is doing very well, but without a doubt our important project has always been to continue building the development of Mexican drivers and Checo, without a doubt, is the one who represents all of us.”
