Luxury of Less: BMW and AB+AC Architects Create a Meditative Pavilion at Dubai Design Week
BMW Middle East and AB+AC Architects have unveiled a captivating meditative experience at Dubai Design Week 2024, showcasing their collaborative vision for the future of sustainable luxury. Named “Luxury of Less,” the pavilion is a multi-sensory exploration of minimalist design, well-being, and conscious consumption, aligning seamlessly with BMW’s circular design philosophy.
A Journey Through Minimalist Luxury
The pavilion’s design, inspired by BMW’s Re;duce, Re;use, Re;cycle, Re;think motto, invites visitors on a transformative journey. The wooden, cubed structure, composed of modular components reminiscent of automotive design, reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainable practices. Each element, from the framework to the translucent drapes and inner paneling, emphasizes comfort and can be disassembled, replaced, or reused, minimizing waste and extending the pavilion’s lifecycle.
Sensory Immersion and Neuroscientific Design
The “Luxury of Less” experience transcends traditional design, incorporating AB+AC Architects’ expertise in neuro-architecture and the psychology of spaces. Guided by neuroscientific principles, the pavilion’s layout triggers a virtuous cycle of excitement, awe, and reflection, enhancing well-being and even promoting cellular repair through endorphin release.
“We have one million years of evolution to prove that our cellular biology is strongly tied to our surroundings, yet this is taken into consideration only marginally in the design of our cities and everyday spaces,” says Arianna Bavuso, an architect at AB+AC.
Tasting Texture and Light: An Immersive Journey
From its exterior adorned with sapphire blue chiffon symbolizing nature’s embrace to the interior’s muted hues evocative of a desert sunset, “Luxury of Less” resonates with tranquility. The journey culminates in a central room designed to soothe the senses. Eerecro Alcantara floor tiles mimic sand dunes, while natural light and airflow create a sense of openness. Minimalistic details, like a suspended scenographic mirror and a tray with rose water, coupled with Tibetan bowls, crystal chimes, and warm lighting grids, elevate the space into a sensory haven.
Dubai Design Week Showcase
The pavilion graced Dubai Design District (d3) as part of Dubai Design Week 2024, from November 5 to 10, captivating visitors with its unique blend of sustainability, luxury, and well-being.
