Borussia Dortmund Revises Earnings Forecast, Anticipating Loss After Champions League Exit
Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA has significantly lowered its earnings forecast for the 2025/26 financial year following its elimination from the Champions League playoffs. The club now projects a loss of between €12 and €22 million, a substantial shift from its previous expectation of a €5 million profit or a €5 million loss, as announced on Thursday via SID.
Dortmund’s exit came after a 1-4 defeat to Atalanta Bergamo, despite winning the first leg 2-0. Sports director Sebastian Kehl stated that the progression in the Champions League was factored into their financial planning according to SID.
The club estimates that reaching the round of 16 would have generated €11 million in bonuses. As a result of the revised forecast, Borussia Dortmund’s share price experienced a decline of over five percent, falling to €3.15 by Thursday afternoon as reported by SID.
The European Development Funds (EDF) are expected to have a treasury of approximately €141 million by the end of 2026, with annual contributions fixed at €800 million for 2025 and €700 million for 2026 as outlined in a recent EUR-Lex communication.
