After more than six decades with The Beach Boys, Bruce Johnston is stepping back from regular touring with the iconic band. The announcement, made on March 4, 2026, marks the complete of an era for the group, leaving Mike Love as the only original member still performing live.

A Legacy of Collaboration

Johnston joined The Beach Boys in 1965, initially filling in for co-founder Brian Wilson during live performances as Wilson focused on studio work according to USA Today. He quickly became a permanent member, contributing vocals to hits like “California Girls” in the same year as noted by Wikipedia. Beyond his vocal contributions, Johnston is a prolific songwriter, with credits including songs like “Wild Honey” (1967), “Surf’s Up” (1971), and “Pet Sounds” (1966).

Johnston expressed his desire to dedicate more time to songwriting, stating, “It’s time for Part Three of my lengthy musical career!
