Gwacheon City has begun operating a project for cancer patients who are experiencing psychological difficulties due to hair loss due to chemotherapy.

Gwacheon City announced on the 10th that it will continue to promote an integrated cancer management support project in 2026 that will enable citizens to experience not only cancer prevention and early detection, but also the treatment process and recovery stage.

This project has been implemented since 2021, and the scope of support has been expanded after the income and property standards were abolished through ordinance revision in 2024. As a result, 14 cancer patients received support in 2025, an increase from the previous year.

Considering the increased demand, Gwacheon City will accept applications from 20 people per year in 2026, with 10 people each for the first and second half of the year. Applications for the first half of the year are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting February 9, and applications for the second half are scheduled to be accepted in June.

We are also operating a project to support medical expenses for cancer patients to ease the financial burden of cancer treatment. Through this, we are helping the financial stability of cancer patients and their families who are struggling with high treatment costs.

In particular, pediatric cancer patients can receive up to 30 million won for leukemia treatment and up to 20 million won for other types of cancer, and adult cancer patients can receive up to 3 million won for three consecutive years, which is expected to be of practical help in the long-term treatment process.

Gwacheon City is also actively providing guidance to those eligible for national cancer screening for early detection of cancer. We provide individual guidance via mail and phone to those eligible for national cancer screening, who are in the bottom 50% of medical benefit recipients and health insurance subscribers, and encourage them to participate in screening.

In addition, we operate cancer prevention education for citizens twice a year to raise awareness of cancer and inform them of the importance of prevention and early screening.

An official at the Gwacheon City Public Health Center said, “The physical and psychological difficulties experienced during chemotherapy can be a great burden for patients,” and added, “Gwacheon City will help citizens focus on treatment more stably by providing support from before treatment to the recovery stage.”
