STEM Grant Honors Legacy of Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleader Krystal Anderson

Central Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri, has received a $2,000 grant to bolster its STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) program, honoring the memory of former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader Krystal Anderson. The grant was presented on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with current Chiefs cheerleaders in attendance.

A Legacy of STEM and Service

Krystal Anderson, 40, passed away in March 2024 due to complications from childbirth. Beyond her role as a Chiefs cheerleader for over 100 games, including appearances at the Pro Bowl and military outreach tours, Anderson was a dedicated professional with a passion for science. She developed a monitoring system for post-partum hemorrhaging that is now used in hospitals worldwide.

Funding the iSpark Program

The $2,000 grant is a collaborative effort between the Hunt Family Foundation and the Kansas City Public Schools Education Foundation. The Hunt Family Foundation contributed $1,000 in remembrance of Anderson, and the Kansas City Public Schools Education Foundation matched the donation, bringing the total to $2,000. The funds will support Central Middle School’s iSpark program, which aims to inspire students interested in pursuing STEM careers through hands-on, project-based learning.

Inspiring Future Generations

“Their dreams are unlimited when it comes to STEM,” said Kathyrene Hayes, Assistant Principal at Central Middle School. Stephanie Judah, senior director of entertainment teams for the Kansas City Chiefs, emphasized Anderson’s dedication to STEM and her impact on the community. “She loved her career and her impact that she made on the community, on young people, and specifically the love of STEM. Being able to just chase dreams. I think that’s what makes this special for all of us,” Judah stated.

Ari, a former teammate of Anderson’s on the Chiefs cheerleading squad, highlighted the enduring spirit of her friend. “Dreams are gonna give you that why, and they’re gonna give you that inspiration to pass that on to the next person that is coming up and chasing their dreams,” she said.

More Than Just a Check

Hayes noted that the grant represents more than just financial assistance. “Yeah, it’s bigger than a check,” she said. “It will inspire these students to proceed on, and excel.” Chanel Terry, a STEM teacher at Central Middle School, will directly benefit from the grant, using the funds to enhance her classroom resources. Clayton Anderson, Krystal’s husband, expressed the importance of continuing her passion for STEM education, stating, “STEM has an incredible opportunity to not only change the world, but change your individual life.”
