Chris Bumstead Prioritized Health in Retirement, Revealing Bodybuilding’s Toll

Chris Bumstead, the celebrated six-time Classic Physique Olympia champion, made the arduous decision to retire from competitive bodybuilding following his historic win in October 2024. While many speculated about the reasons behind his departure, Bumstead has revealed that prioritizing his health and family were central to his choice. The demanding nature of the sport had taken a toll, leading him to recognize the need for a change.

During a recent conversation with Chris Williamson, bumstead openly discussed the detrimental effects of bodybuilding on his overall well-being. He expressed a growing concern about the long-term consequences of continuing to push his body to its limits,particularly with the desire to start a family.

“I was very conscious of bodybuilding is not good for your health. And I don’t want to continue to do this to me with a family,” Bumstead stated,highlighting the pivotal role this realization played in his decision.

Bumstead’s final competitive appearance came at the EVLS Prague Pro in the Men’s Open division, where he secured a commendable runner-up finish. Though, he has not competed as, choosing rather to focus on a new chapter in his life. Despite stepping away from the stage, bumstead remains dedicated to maintaining a high level of fitness, demonstrating his continued passion for training.

“Ther’s definitely is some damage that happened to my health and was another huge reason why it was easy for me to retire because I wasn’t willing to make that sacrifice anymore,” he further explained, underscoring the cumulative impact of years spent rigorously preparing for competition.
