Clutch Bowls: Function & Importance in Motors

Mataram (NTB Voice) – One of the important components in the automatic motorcycle CVT is a clutch bowl. The function of the clutch bowl is to connect and break the engine power to the rear wheels. However, like other components, the clutch bowl can also experience wear and damage. “If during driving you have heard a squeaky sound or feel your automatic motorbike feels grredek when walking slowly, it could be a sign if your automatic motorcycle clutch bowl is worn out,” said Sultan Hartawan as the Astra Motor NTB Technical Service Instructor.

The Sultan acknowledged that this component was rarely noticed by Honda motorcyclists, but its role was quite important in maintaining automatic motor performance so that it remains optimal.

The Sultan explained, when the clutch bowl was damaged, the power from the engine could not be channeled perfectly to the wheels. As a result, the pull of the motor feels heavy and acceleration is less responsive.

The following are signs of automatic motorcycle clutch bowls must be replaced:

  1. The appearance of a squeak and grredek sound

If you start to hear a squeak or squeak when the motor starts to walk, this could be the initial sign that the surface of the clutch bowl is no longer flat. This condition will make the clutch can not grip perfectly. In addition to sound, you can also feel grred or rough vibrations when making initial pulls, especially when driving at low speeds. This problem often occurs because this bowl shape has been bumpy due to excessive heat during use.

  1. Excessive vibration when driving

When you feel abnormal vibrations when the new motor is running or at low speed, then the possibility of a clutch bowl is unbalanced. Because, a bowl that is not perfectly round because of wear or deformation due to heat will produce an unstable rotation. This is what makes the motor feels excessive trembling, especially when the gas is first opened.

  1. The surface of the bowl turns bluish

The bluish color on the surface of the bowl is a clear sign that this component has experienced overheat or hot. This color arises because the bowls and clutch canvas experience excessive heat and rushed too often. If it’s like this, usually the metal structure in the bowl changes, so it is more susceptible to deformation or crack.

  1. The pull and acceleration of the motor feels slower

If the pull of your motorbike starts to feel sluggish or the acceleration is slowing down even though it has been quite deep, it could be the cause is a clutch bowl that is worn out. This wear

Making the distance between the clutch and a bowl is not ideal. As a result, power from the engine is not channeled to the maximum to the wheels. The motor so it feels heavy in the lower rotation and wasteful of fuel.

“If you allow damage to the clutch bowl for too long, then there are some risks that lurk, namely; joining the damage to other CVT components on the motor, for example rollers and clutch canvas; fuel consumption becomes more wasteful and the motor feels uncomfortable to drive; repair costs will swell because they have to replace several components at once,” said the Sultan.

So when should the ideal time change the clutch bowl? The Sultan said that generally this component could start worn after the motorbike traveled between 24,000 km to 35,000 km. But if it often passes through a solid route or holding gas in traffic, then the period of use can be even shorter.

“So, you should do regular checks to find out the condition of this clutch bowl. Do not wait until the strange sound appears or the motor feels heavy. The faster you replace, the smaller the risk of further damage to the CVT system,” said Sultan.

“If you need a new clutch bowl or CVTLAIN component, you can look for original and trusted products on the Astra Motor website or Tokopedia, and if you want to service, simply book AHASS services (Astra Honda Authorized Service Station),” concluded the Sultan. (bul)
