DaBaby Tests Hip-Hop Knowledge in XXL’s ‘Rhyme and Risk’

DaBaby put his hip-hop expertise to the test in XXL’s “Rhyme and Risk,” presented by Stake, facing trivia challenges with a competitive spirit. The North Carolina rapper aimed to win a trophy by correctly answering 15 questions or accumulating 4,000 points, with incorrect answers leading to various challenges.

The Game and the Challenges

The rules of “Rhyme and Risk” were straightforward: select a number, match the color to a trivia category, and answer correctly. DaBaby expressed confidence, stating, “I don’t f**king lose. I walked into a challenge here today and I plan on winning. I got a trophy with my name on it.”

The trivia covered a range of hip-hop topics, including the origins of artists and references to popular culture. Questions included identifying Petey Pablo’s hometown in North Carolina, Drake’s early acting career, the meaning behind the nickname “King Vamp,” and identifying rappers from the 1980s named after male household figures.

Incorrect answers resulted in challenges such as eating a mystery jelly bean or creating a rhyme from a random word.

DaBaby’s Performance and Background

DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, began rapping in 2014 and has released eight mixtapes, including Baby Talk (2017), Billion Dollar Baby (2017), Baby Talk 5 (2018), and Blank Blank. His 2019 album, Baby on Baby, featured the hit single “Suge” and a collaboration with Offset, “Baby Sitter.”

As a 2019 XXL Freshman, DaBaby stated, “I definitely feel like I deserve to be on that bitch. So y’all got that [one] right, fo’ sho.” He cited Lil Wayne as a major influence, praising Wayne’s “mentality” and considering him “the best muthafuckin’ rapper in the world.”
