Dan Mullen to Coach UNLV After ESPN Tenure
Former Florida and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen is set to return to the sidelines. Sources have confirmed to ESPN’s Pete Thamel that Mullen has agreed to a five-year deal to become the next head coach of UNLV.
Mullen’s Coaching Journey
While the deal is not yet finalized, it is expected to be completed shortly. Mullen brings a wealth of experience to UNLV. He spent four seasons at Florida, compiling a 34-15 record and leading the Gators to an SEC championship game appearance and three New Year’s Six bowl games. Prior to that, he coached nine seasons at Mississippi State, achieving a 103-61 overall record across his 13-year coaching career.
Mullen joined ESPN as a college football analyst in 2022 following his departure from Florida. His insightful commentary and deep understanding of the game quickly made him a respected voice in the college football world.
Replacing Odom
Mullen takes over for Barry Odom, who left UNLV to become the head coach at Purdue on December 8th. Odom enjoyed a successful two-year tenure with the Rebels, achieving a 19-8 record and leading them to consecutive Mountain West Championship game appearances.
Looking Ahead
UNLV, currently boasting a 10-3 record, will face Cal (6-6) in the Art of Sport LA Bowl on Wednesday, December 20th at 9 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
Football Scoop initially reported Mullen’s candidacy for the UNLV position.
