Dejvické Theatre Temporarily Relocates to Galaxia Cinema in Prague

The Dejvické Theatre, one of the Czech Republic’s most acclaimed theatrical companies, is temporarily performing at the former Galaxia multi-cinema in Prague 11. This relocation is due to ongoing reconstruction at the theatre’s original building.

Reconstruction and Temporary Venue

The Dejvické Theatre has been operating from the temporary premises in South Town since September of last year. The reconstruction of the Dejvické theatre building, costing 72.4 million Czech crowns, includes an expansion of the auditorium, increasing its capacity from 150 to 200 seats. Galaxia is also currently used by Divadla Minor, dance club DanceConnected, and Prague’s DAMU.

Projected Return to Original Venue

According to Petr Prokop, the deputy mayor of Prague 6, trial performances at the renovated theatre are planned, with a full return expected after the new year. The theatre’s contract at Galaxia extends until the complete of 2026. Petr Prokop, a cultural manager, actor, and producer, announced the temporary relocation.

About Dejvické Theatre

Founded on October 14, 1992, and gaining professional theatre status a year later, Dejvické Theatre has become a prominent force in the Czech theatre scene. The company, featuring renowned actors such as Ivan Trojan, Lenka Krobotová, Klára Melíšková, Martin Myšička, and Václav Neužil, has repeatedly been recognized as the Theatre of the Year and consistently receives nominations for prestigious industry awards. Petr Prokop is also a founding member and producer of Divadlo Vosto5.

Impact of Reconstruction

The auditorium expansion aims to address the theatre’s frequent sell-out performances, allowing more patrons to experience its productions. Additional repairs include improvements to backstage areas, technological equipment, and air conditioning.
