Delhi SUV Crash: Teen Driver’s Family Apologizes as Investigation Reveals Reckless Driving
Days after 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra was killed in a brutal SUV crash in Delhi’s Dwarka, the family of the accused driver has expressed their grief and admitted ownership of the vehicle involved. The incident, which occurred on February 3rd, has sparked outrage and raised questions about road safety and accountability.
What Happened in the Dwarka Crash?
The crash took place around 11:50 am near the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management in Sector 11. A Scorpio SUV struck a Yamaha R15 motorcycle, instantly killing the rider, Sahil Dhaneshra. The SUV then collided with a parked Maruti Swift Dzire taxi, injuring the driver, Ajit Singh.
Police apprehended the driver at the scene, identified as 17-year-old Akshatra Singh. A case was initially filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (negligence leading to death), and 125(a) (act endangering life).
Autopsy Reveals Severe Injuries
The post-mortem report revealed the extent of Sahil Dhaneshra’s injuries. He suffered a fractured skull, multiple rib fractures, and an elbow fracture due to the impact of the collision with the Scorpio SUV. According to reports, he died on the spot.
Medical examiners likewise noted significant head trauma, including a blood clot beneath the scalp.
The autopsy also found evidence of injuries to vital organs, including the spleen and liver, and blood in the pleural cavity, indicating serious chest trauma.
Family’s Response and Police Investigation
The father of the accused, who owns a commercial transport business, has apologized for the incident and stated that he was unaware his son was driving the vehicle. He claimed his son was on his way to drop off his daughter. He has pledged full cooperation with the police investigation.
The Delhi Police have booked the father under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, holding him liable for the actions of his minor son. The police are also investigating claims that the teen driver was filming a video at the time of the crash.
Initially, the teen had lied about his age. He was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on February 4th and sent to an observation home, but was granted interim bail on February 10th for his Class 10 board examinations.
Victim’s Mother Seeks Justice
Sahil Dhaneshra’s mother has appealed for justice, stating that her son was killed by a “reckless teen” just minutes from his workplace. She emphasized that her son had plans to study in the UK later this year. She expressed concern over the delay in receiving assist after the accident.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have seized all vehicles involved and are conducting mechanical inspections and reviewing CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
