Dresden Fire Department – Christmas Holiday Operations Report

The number of operations during the Christmas holidays for the fire and rescue services in the state capital Dresden was consistent with the previous year. From December 24th to 26th, emergency services responded to a total of 693 calls. An emergency doctor was utilized in 216 cases, and the rescue helicopter Christoph 38 was dispatched five times within the control center area. Additionally, 187 qualified patient transports were performed.
The fire department responded to 22 fire incidents during the same period. Several calls were attributed to smoke progress from overcooked Christmas foods. The number of incidents classified as fires increased by nearly 50%. Emergency services also responded to three false alarms triggered by automatic fire alarm systems. technical assistance calls were below the 2024 level,totaling 44 deployments.
Addendum to the Major Barn Fire
Date: December 24th, 7:10 PM – 3:51 PM
Location: Main Street, Weißig
Due to the volume of burning material and the challenges of transporting water to the site, operations continued until approximately 2:00 PM. By the time all units returned to their stations, it was almost 4:00 PM. The site was re-inspected on the evening of December 25th,2025,with no further issues identified. Another follow-up inspection was conducted on December 26th, 2025, between 8:17 AM and 9:23 AM. During this inspection, a smoldering area was discovered. Firefighters used a pitchfork to access and extinguish the remaining embers with water. A total of 18 emergency personnel from the Weißig district fire department and the Striesen fire and rescue station were involved in this operation.

Date: December 24th, 10:15 PM – 11:37 PM
Location: Geystrasse, Strehlen
swift action on December 24th, 2025, prevented meaningful damage. The fire department was alerted to a fire in a single-family home. The frist responders, a fire department ambulance, arrived on scene and informed the incident commander that the fire had already been extinguished.Fire crews subsequently inspected the area.
