DSWD to Resume Cash Aid Distribution for NCR PUV Drivers on March 24
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will resume the distribution of cash relief assistance (CRA) to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers in the National Capital Region (NCR) on March 24. The rollout begins with transport network vehicle services (TNVS) drivers, following the completion of payouts for tricycle drivers.
Assistance Rollout Schedule
DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao announced the schedule for the CRA distribution:
- March 24: TNVS drivers
- March 25: Jeepney drivers
- March 26-27: Delivery riders
- March 28: Motorcycle taxi riders
Number of Beneficiaries
The DSWD estimates that over 34,000 TNVS drivers, 20,000 jeepney drivers, 83,000 delivery riders, and 34,000 motorcycle taxi riders are eligible to receive assistance. The program aims to provide financial support to drivers affected by rising fuel prices.
Government Support for Transport Workers
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Directed the DSWD to provide financial assistance to transport workers struggling with increasing oil prices. The DSWD is collaborating with the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to implement the program effectively.
Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation
The CRA is being implemented under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, as part of the government’s broader efforts to provide immediate relief to vulnerable sectors. Irene Dumlao, the DSWD Assistant Secretary, is overseeing the distribution.
Recent DSWD Updates
In July 2024, Irene Dumlao was reappointed as Assistant Secretary at the DSWD by President Marcos. The DSWD also announced a special payout for NCR tricycle drivers who had previously missed receiving the P5,000 cash assistance.
