Memphis Safe Task Force Intensifies Efforts, Arrests Multiple Suspects in Recent Weeks
The Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) continues to make significant strides in combating violent crime in Memphis, Tennessee, with a series of arrests made in February and March 2026. These efforts have resulted in the apprehension of individuals wanted for murder, reckless homicide and other serious offenses, as well as the recovery of illegal firearms.
Recent Arrests in Homicide Cases
Between Monday and Tuesday, February 23-24, 2026, the MSTF arrested four individuals suspected of murder. Javarion Ford, 19, is accused of fatally shooting a man on February 21, 2026, following an altercation where witnesses reported hearing the victim pleading for his life. Marvin Lanehart was arrested while allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm and is charged with a murder committed in March 2025. Lorenzo Miller faces a charge of vehicular homicide, with details surrounding the incident currently undisclosed.
Suspect Apprehended in Texas
One of the four murder suspects, Felipe Canelo Vega, was found to be in the United States illegally. He was apprehended by law enforcement in Robertson County, Texas, and is wanted in Shelby County, Tennessee, for second-degree murder. The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his illegal status in a social media post on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Reckless Homicide Arrest
On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Tatyana Taylor, 26, was arrested in the 4200 block of Macon Road on a warrant for reckless homicide. The charge stems from the accidental shooting death of a 2-year-traditional boy in Memphis in 2022.
Ongoing Manhunt for Memphis Police Officer Shooting Suspect
A statewide Blue Alert has been issued for Danell Maxwell, 40, following the shooting of a Memphis Police Department officer on Thursday evening, February 26, 2026, near South Perkins Road and Cottonwood Road. The officer was taken to Regional One Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Maxwell is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, and was last seen wearing dark clothing with an orange and green reflective vest. Authorities believe he is armed with a silver handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous.
MSTF Vehicle Shot at in Raleigh Neighborhood
The FBI is investigating an incident where shots were fired at a Memphis Safe Task Force vehicle in the Raleigh neighborhood of Memphis. The shooting occurred while officers were responding to a separate shots fired call. No officers were injured. The incident involved a trailer on Felton Rd. That was heavily damaged during the investigation.
Task Force Statistics
Since its deployment in September 2025, law enforcement involved in the Memphis Safe Task Force has made 7,879 arrests, with the U.S. Marshals Service attributing 6,497 of those arrests directly to the MSTF.
U.S. Marshals Service Chief Inspector Chad Hunt, commander of the Memphis Safe Task Force, emphasized the importance of these arrests, stating that the suspects represent “the worst of the worst” and that capturing them prevents further harm to the citizens of Memphis.
