Four Astronauts Safely Return to Earth After Extended ISS Stay
After months of delays caused by capsule issues and inclement weather, a SpaceX capsule carrying four astronauts touched down in the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday morning.
Delayed Return to Earth
The crew, consisting of NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, and Jeanette Epps, along with Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin, were originally scheduled to return to Earth two months earlier. However, their homecoming was thwarted by a series of unforeseen challenges.
Firstly, problems with Boeing’s new Starliner astronaut capsule led to its empty return in September due to safety concerns. This left the Crew-8 astronauts stranded on the International Space Station (ISS).
Hurricane Milton then added another obstacle, forcing further delays. Combined with high winds and rough seas, the return journey was put on hold for an extra two weeks.

Crew-8 Mission Highlights
Launched by SpaceX in March, Crew-8 marked a significant space mission with the proven expertise of long-term veteran astronaut Mike Barratt.
Upon their return, Barratt expressed gratitude to the ground support teams for their unwavering support and flexibility in adapting to the unexpected delays and challenges.
ISS Back to Normal Crew Size
With the successful return of Crew-8, the ISS has now returned to its standard seven-member crew – four Americans and three Russians.
The four astronauts who will take their place aboard the ISS – Butch Wilmore, Suni Williams, and two SpaceX astronauts – launched just a month ago and are expected to stay until February.
Stay tuned for more updates on future space missions and the incredible work being done aboard the International Space Station!
