Hollywood Condemns AI Video Generator Seedance for Copyright Infringement
Paris – The Motion picture Association (MPA) has leveled serious accusations against Chinese video generation service Seedance, alleging “unauthorized use of US copyrighted works on a massive scale.” This comes as increasingly realistic AI-generated video clips featuring prominent Hollywood stars rapidly circulate across social media platforms.
Seedance 2.0,developed by ByteDance – the parent company of TikTok – is capable of producing highly convincing scenes, including fictional scenarios like Tom Cruise engaging in a brawl with Brad Pitt, and countless other combinations of actors from popular superhero films and video games. Many of these AI-generated clips have garnered millions of views online.
Charles Rivkin, the head of the MPA, representing major studios such as disney, Worldwide, Warner Bros. Finding, and Netflix, issued a strong statement demanding that ByteDance immediately halt operations. He asserts that the AI operates “without meaningful safeguards against infringement.”
Currently, Seedance 2.0 is available only as a limited test version within China. though, this has not prevented a surge of Hollywood-inspired imagery from appearing in the feeds of social media users globally.
“In a single day, Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorized use of US copyrighted works on a massive scale,” Rivkin stated. he further emphasized that ByteDance is “disregarding well-established copyright law that protects the rights of creators and underpins millions of American jobs.”
