Don’t Cook Bacon in Your Air Fryer: Here’s Why
The air fryer has become a kitchen staple, offering a quicker, healthier alternative to deep frying. However, one popular food item that’s best avoided in your air fryer is bacon. Nutrition Coach and registered Dietician Brenda Peralta warns against cooking bacon in this appliance.
“Bacon is a fatty food, and when it is cooked in an air fryer, the fat can drip down and cause smoke or splatter,” Peralta told Yahoo. “This can make the bacon difficult to cook evenly, and it can also produce a lot of smoke and odours.”
She further explained:
“The air fryer basket may not be large enough to accommodate a large quantity of bacon. This can make it difficult to cook a lot of bacon at once, which can be inconvenient if you are cooking for a group.”
Beyond smoke and uneven cooking, Peralta noted the difficulty in removing cooked bacon from the basket.

**Safer Alternatives:**
Fortunately, there are plenty of safe and effective ways to cook bacon:
- Oven Baking: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake bacon on a wire rack placed over a baking sheet for crispy results.
- Stovetop Cooking: Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat, flipping occasionally, until crispy.
By choosing a more suitable cooking method, you can enjoy delicious, perfectly cooked bacon without the potential downsides of air frying.
