Controversy Surrounds Bad Bunny‘s 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance

Bad Bunny’s upcoming headline performance at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show has ignited notable controversy, drawing criticism from conservative figures and prompting a counter-programming event.

Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA is organizing an “All-American Halftime Show” in protest of Bad Bunny’s selection. this move comes after former President Donald Trump publicly denounced the choice, calling it “a terrible choice” that “all it does is sow hatred.” Trump had previously stated he “never heard of” the Puerto Rican artist and labeled the decision “crazy.” A Trump advisor further fueled the controversy by suggesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be present at the concert.

The backlash appears to be connected to Bad Bunny’s previous statements regarding touring in the US. Prior to the Super Bowl announcement, Bad Bunny expressed concerns about potential ICE raids at his concerts and announced he would not be including US dates on his world tour.

Despite the controversy, Bad Bunny’s musical achievements have been widely recognized. His album, nadie sabe lo que va a pasar mañana (originally titled I should have taken more photos), won a Grammy Award and was praised by NME as a “breathtaking extravaganza,” highlighting his skillful blending of various Latin musical styles and compelling storytelling. NME included the album on its list of the Best Albums of 2025, placing it at Number Five.
