New Contact Lens Shows Promise for New Wearers with Astigmatism
Published: March 11, 2026
A recent real-world evaluation suggests that Infuse for Astigmatism daily disposable contact lenses (kalifilcon A, Bausch + Lomb) offer a positive experience for new contact lens wearers, including those with astigmatism. The study, presented at the Southeastern Council of Optometry (SECO) meeting in February 2026, showed high rates of patient satisfaction, ease of handling, and clear vision.
Study Findings
Researchers analyzed self-reported experiences from 208 participants who wore Infuse for Astigmatism lenses for five days, with 89 being new to contact lens wear. Data was collected through a five-question online survey utilizing sliding scales, and responses were confirmed via phone with 60% of participants. Key findings include:
- Overall Experience: 92.1% of participants rated their experience with the lenses as good to excellent.
- Continued Use: 87.6% indicated an intention to continue using the lenses.
- Ease of Handling: A significant 95.5% found the lenses easy to handle.
- Clear Vision: 83.1% reported consistent clear vision throughout the day.
- Night Vision: 79.8% experienced clear vision while driving at night.
- Reduced Halos & Glare: 77.5% reported a reduction in halos and low-light glare.
- Recommendation Rate: 93.3% of participants said they would recommend the lenses to friends or family.
Addressing a Common Challenge
John Womack, OD, chief medical officer at West Point Optical Group/Family First Vision Care in Canton, Georgia, and the study author, highlighted the importance of addressing handling difficulties experienced by new contact lens wearers. “The No. 1 reason that new patients drop out of contact lens wear is that they can’t handle the lens,” he stated. He chose to study Infuse for Astigmatism to explore options for this underserved population.
Optometrist Perspective
Dr. Womack emphasized the value of a reliable and effective lens. “A lens that can perform well and can perform fast and be reproducible is something that I think excites all optometrists,” he said. “We actually have something new to be able to serve our patients, and it performs well.”
