The woman, identified as Savithri, allegedly strangled her 40-year-old husband, Srimantha Itnali, and then smashed his face with a stone before dismembering the body in an attempt to dispose of it.

### Brutal Crime Uncovered

The grim discovery was made on December 10th when Srimantha’s remains were found in Umarani village in Chikkodi taluk of Belagavi. A dedicated three-member team led by the deputy superintendent of police meticulously investigated the death. While initially not a suspect, Savithri was ultimately brought in for questioning.

Initially denying any involvement, Savithri later confessed to the brutal crime. According to her confession, the incident took place on December 8th, two days prior to the body’s discovery.

### Motive Revealed

Police investigations revealed a deeply troubled relationship. Srimantha Itnali was reportedly a chronic alcoholic who frequently abused his wife for money. On the day of the murder, a dispute erupted between the couple over a piece of land owned by Savithri. Itnali allegedly demanded she sell the land to purchase him a new motorbike.

“She allegedly confessed that she killed him that night while he was sleeping outside,” said Belagavi superintendent of police, Bhimashankar Guled.

The chilling details continued: “She first strangled him, and when he was unconscious, she used a nearby boulder to smash his face. She then disposed of the boulder in a well.” Savithri also disposed of the barrels she used to transport the body.

Savithri has been taken into custody as the investigation unfolds.
