(Central News Agency reporter Lu Taicheng, Taitung County, 21st) Taitung Mackay Hospital announced today that investigations reveal over 90% of the population is infected with the EB virus. often mistaken for a common cold due to fever symptoms, or dismissed as mild, growing research links this virus to more serious diseases and warrants attention.

Xu Hanren, an infectious physician at Mackay Hospital in Taitung, held a press conference today, stating that since arriving in Taitung last year, he has observed several cases of complications stemming from the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as “kissing disease.” Earlier this year, 28-year-old Ms. Zhang, recently diagnosed with COVID-19, experienced intermittent fever, headaches, and fatigue.

Upon examination, ms. Zhang presented with a noticeably swollen lymph node in her neck. Subsequent abdominal ultrasound revealed spleen enlargement, and blood tests confirmed a positive EB virus result, indicating a recurrence.Low doses of steroids were therefore administered.
