NYC Public Schools Corruption: $2 Million in Fraud Uncovered in 2025 Report

A new report released by the Special Commissioner of Investigation for the New York City School District (SCI) details widespread corruption, fraud, and misconduct within the New York City Department of Education (DOE), the nation’s largest public school system. The 2025 Annual Report revealed nearly 12,000 complaints of fraud, criminal activity, financial misconduct, and abuse were received last year.

Key Findings of the Report

The SCI initiated 471 investigations, closing 393, and substantiating wrongdoing in over 150 cases involving hundreds of individuals or entities. The report identified nearly $2 million in financial losses to the DOE and city retirement systems—double the amount recovered in 2024.
