Lewandowski Hat-trick Cuts Real MadridS La Liga Lead
Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick to help Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 4-2 on Sunday in La Liga, reducing Real Madrid’s lead to three points.
The Polish striker’s treble allowed Hansi Flick’s side to capitalize on Real madrid’s earlier 0-0 draw at Rayo Vallecano.
Teenager Lamine Yamal also scored for Barcelona in an exciting game showcasing the champions’ attacking style. Marcus Rashford contributed with two assists.
Frenkie de Jong received a late red card for Barcelona after receiving two yellow cards, but the victory was already secured, moving Barcelona into second place.
Lewandowski has experienced a somewhat inconsistent start to the season due to injury.Flick believes his hat-trick will substantially boost his confidence.
“After the injury, I see a different Robert Lewandowski. He’s positive and returned very early,” Flick told reporters.
“For him, and for his confidence, it’s great to score three goals today.”
Lewandowski described the game as “one of the craziest” of the season, but expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
“Vigo is always difficult for us,but now we have fewer points separating us from Real Madrid,” Lewandowski told Movistar.
Flick affirmed Barcelona will maintain their attacking approach despite recent challenges, including a 3-3 draw with Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, which contributed to a fast-paced first half.
Barcelona took the lead through a Lewandowski penalty in the 10th minute following a handball, but Celta Vigo quickly equalized a minute later.
