Liam Neeson Hints at Retirement from Action Movies
Liam Neeson, the renowned actor known for his intense roles in action thrillers, has hinted at an impending retirement from the genre. The 72-year-old Irish star, celebrated for his portrayal of tough protagonists in films like the Taken trilogy, Retribution, and In The Land of Saints And Sinners, is considering hanging up his action hero hat next year.
“It Has to Stop at Some Stage”
Speaking to People magazine, Neeson admitted, “I’m 72 – it has to stop at some stage. You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want (my Taken stunt double) Mark (Vanselow) to be fighting my fight scenes for me.”
He added, “Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it.”
Exploring New Territories: Comedy?
While Neeson is stepping back from action, he’s open to exploring new comedic avenues. He’s been cast in a reboot of The Naked Gun, originally a slapstick comedy franchise starring Leslie Nielsen.
“Whether I can carry it or not, I honestly don’t know,” Neeson confessed to the publication.
The reboot, directed by The Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer, is slated for release in 2025.
A Legacy of Diverse Roles
Neeson’s illustrious career spans over 100 films, showcasing his versatility as an actor. He received an Academy Award nomination for his powerful portrayal of Oskar Schindler in Schindler’s List. His recent work includes the 2023 film Marlowe, based on the iconic detective character created by Raymond Chandler.
