Lidl Planning New Shop in Killarney – Up to 25 Jobs Created
German discount supermarket chain Lidl Ireland is planning to open a new store in Killarney, County Kerry. The retailer has submitted a planning application to Kerry County Council for a new shop on a brownfield site on Park Road, beside the Omniplex cinema.
New Shop on Park Road
The proposed development would see Lidl build a new supermarket alongside a public lobby, toilets, staff facilities, IT room, plant room, delivery area, and storage space. The brownfield site, located approximately 0.95 hectares, sits conveniently beside the new Omniplex cinema and directly across the street from McDonald’s.
Job Creation and Community Benefits
Lidl states the new Killarney store will provide up to 25 full-time jobs in addition to construction-stage employment. The company highlights that this project would further contribute to the vitality and viability of the town centre by providing increased competition and choice in the retail sector.
Sustainable Transportation Options
Parking for the new store would consist of 97 spaces, including designated spaces for electric vehicles (EVs) and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, 24 bicycle spaces will be provided to encourage sustainable transportation.
Application Timeline
Kerry County Council is expected to make a decision on Lidl’s planning application by early December 2023. Construction is projected to be completed by 2027.
This development signifies Lidl’s continued commitment to expanding its presence in Ireland and providing convenient shopping options for the residents and visitors of Killarney.
