Lourdes Florist Blooms in Historic Space Once Linked to Bernadette Soubirous
A Lourdes florist, “Les Pensées d’Anaïs,” has relocated to a larger and historically significant space – the former apartment of Commissioner Dominique Jacomet, the police official who interrogated Bernadette Soubirous during the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1858.
A New Location with a Rich Past
The boutique, owned by Anaïs Beni-Griffon, moved from its previous location to the former Progrès pharmacy, situated between numbers 3 and 11 on Rue Saint-Pierre, near Place Marcadal. The 36-year-aged florist purchased the property after it had been vacant for several years. The new space provides approximately 30 additional square meters, offering a view of the Lourdes castle and Place Peyramale. NRPyrenees.fr and La Dépêche du Midi both reported on the move on February 18, 2026.
Commissioner Jacomet’s Apartment
The building previously served as the residence of Commissioner Jacomet, who was tasked with questioning Bernadette Soubirous regarding her visions at Massabielle cave. While often portrayed negatively in accounts of the apparitions, Jacomet remains a significant historical figure in Lourdes.
Preserving History
Anaïs Beni-Griffon chose to preserve a decades-old wall within the apartment, recognizing its historical connection to the events surrounding Bernadette Soubirous. According to the florist, it is believed that Bernadette was warmed by a fireplace in that remarkably room during questioning. Pilgrims visiting the shop have expressed particular interest in this historical detail.
Future Plans
With the expanded space, “Les Pensées d’Anaïs” plans to host monthly floral arrangement workshops, a feature not possible in the previous location.
