A Man’s Unexpected Battle with Breast Cancer
“I suddenly found myself in an all pink world.” Stefano Saldarelli, 55, originally from Prato, tells it with the calm tone of someone who, over time, has transformed a wound into a symbol of awareness. He, a 47-year-old freelance graphic designer at the time, could only imagine the word cancer al breast could concern him. Adn yet, from that diagnosis in 2017, a journey began that led him to question his body, his life, and even his way of speaking about himself. “I reckon I didn’t even know I had breasts,” he tells Leggo ironically.

It all began with a daily gesture, during an August dinner, the evening before leaving for vacation. “my wife saved me.She caressed my chest and felt something strange – explains Stefano – I thought it was just a piece of meat,but she insisted on having an ultrasound before we left.” The ultrasound report wasn’t clear, so upon returning from vacation, Saldarelli went to his GP. From there, he experienced the process manny women know well: tests, checks, and an immediate referral to a breast specialist.
