The most popular monarchy in Europe already has a new king, Frederick Xafter his mother, Margaret II, signed her declaration of abdication shortly after 2:00 p.m. in the palacio de Christiansborg, the seat of the Parliament of Denmark. This is the first time in 900 years that a Danish monarch abdicates.

With a huge influx of public and under a strong security device (the terrorist threat is considered high), the proclamation of Frederick four almost identical mansions that form an octagonal square.

At 1:35 p.m., the new king (55 years old) and his wife, the reina Mary (51), traveled by limousine, accompanied by their first-born, Crown Prince Christian (18 years old), from Frederick VIII’s mansion, which is his residence in Amalienborg, to Christiansborg, a journey of just a kilometer and a half. Two minutes later, escorted by the Cavalry Squadron of the Hussar Guard Regiment, Queen Margaret (83 years old) left the palace of Christian IX in a black carriage pulled by six white horses.

In Parliament, Federico, Christian and Margarita participated in the Council of State together with the full Government, headed by the prime minister, the social democrat Mette Frederiksenand the secretary of the Council, Barbara Berthelsen. The passing of the throne occurred during this meeting at the time when the queen signed her declaration of abdication.

Immediately afterwards, Margaret returned to her home in Amalienborg, this time by car, while Frederick and Mary acted as hosts in Christiansborg, in a reception for special guests that would last until the beginning of the proclamation on the balcony.
