Expanded Weekend Healthcare Access Now Available in Maricá
The city of Maricá has proactively expanded healthcare accessibility for its residents, initiating Saturday morning services at select Family health Units (USFs) beginning in June. This initiative aims to address the healthcare needs of individuals unable to access care during conventional weekday hours, and to alleviate pressure on the city’s urgent and emergency care facilities.
Convenient Saturday Services
Between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM each Saturday, residents can visit participating USFs for a range of essential medical services. These include consultations with physicians and nurses, routine and seasonal immunizations – such as the annual influenza vaccine – and rapid diagnostic testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), influenza, and COVID-19. Additionally, wound care and treatment for flu-like symptoms are readily available.According to recent data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, access to primary care is a key determinant of overall health outcomes. By extending service hours, Maricá is demonstrating a commitment to preventative care and early intervention, possibly reducing the need for more costly and intensive treatments down the line. Similar initiatives in other Brazilian municipalities have shown a demonstrable decrease in emergency room visits for non-critical conditions.
Strengthening Primary Care Networks
The expansion of services underscores the city’s dedication to strengthening its primary care network. As stated by health officials, the program is designed to bring healthcare closer to the community, particularly benefiting those in the four districts served by the participating USFs. This proactive approach aligns with global healthcare trends emphasizing the importance of accessible and convenient primary care.

USF Jardim Atlântico: 36th Street (corner with 53rd street), Lot 01, Block 206.
USF Chácara de Inoã: Amaral Peixoto Highway, km 16, next to the Mania pole, Inoã.
