With the MG4 hatchback, the Chinese automaker managed to gain a foothold in a typically European segment. And this despite the fact that the car was frequently enough criticized. The main criticisms were directed at the interior and the software, which is apparently addressed by the upgraded design recently revealed in Brazil.
The electric MG4 is among the moast popular chinese cars on the old continent. Over 70,000 units were sold in 2023 and over 50,000 units last year, but this year there was a major drop. After all, the offer of competitors is much larger. And the MG4 is getting old, which is especially evident in the interior.
In China, the MG4 was a complete flop, ending this year and being replaced by the second generation. It is a bit bigger and instead of driving the rear wheels, it turns only the front wheels. We will also see this new car in the Czech Republic next year, but the original four is not over yet. A facelift has already been confirmed, which will also appear in Europe.
But maybe he will only focus on the most criticized part of the car, i.e. the interior. The modernized version of the MG4 was shown in Brazil, and from the outside it looks completely identical. Inside, however, it surprises with a new interior, taken from the larger MGS5. It sits on the same Nebula platform and uses the same technology.
MG5 EV Receives Interior Upgrade, Hints at Potential European Refresh
Table of Contents
The MG5 EV, MG’s popular electric station wagon, has received a notable interior upgrade as showcased on MG Brazil’s website. These changes suggest a potential refresh for the model in other markets, including Europe, potentially arriving in 2025.The updates focus on improving the cabin’s quality and user experience, addressing some criticisms leveled at the MG4 EV.
Interior Enhancements: A Step Up in Quality
The most notable changes are found within the cabin. Unlike the MG4, the updated MG5 EV brings back physical controls for the climate system, albeit in a simplified form. This is a welcome change for drivers who prefer tactile feedback over solely relying on touchscreen controls.https://www.auto.cz/clanky/novy-mg5-live-prostranna-krosover-se-zajimavymi-detaily
The 12.8-inch central touchscreen display also benefits from improved software tuning. European versions will reportedly offer easier access to disable mandatory driver-assistance systems, a feature many drivers appreciate. Reports indicate the MG5’s software is more stable and responsive than the MG4’s, which has been criticized for bugs and sluggish performance even after software updates.
Design Refinements and Comfort Improvements
Beyond the tech upgrades, the MG5 EV receives visual and comfort-focused improvements. The steering wheel has been redesigned, and the central tunnel has been altered to accommodate a rotary gear selector – a change also seen in the MG4.
The interior materials have also been upgraded, with hard plastics replaced by upholstery in several areas. A new brown and beige color scheme adds a touch of sophistication to the cabin. The Brazilian website displays these changes across all variants, including the high-performance xpower model. https://www.auto.cz/clanky/novy-mg5-live-prostranna-krosover-se-zajimavymi-detaily
European Rollout still Uncertain
While the facelifted MG5 EV is expected to go on sale next year, its arrival in the European and Czech markets remains unconfirmed. MG has not yet released official details regarding the rollout plan for these updates outside of Brazil.
