Trump Plans Retaliation After ISIS Kills 2 US Soldiers

Jakarta – Two United States (US) soldiers died after allegedly being shot by soldiers from ISIS in central Syria. US President Donald Trump is taking steps to retaliate against ISIS.

As reported by AFP, the shooting occurred on Saturday (December 13th) local time. The perpetrator opened fire on a group of soldiers who were carrying out a joint patrol in central Syria.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the deaths after Syrian state media previously reported an attack on the city of palmyra that injured American and syrian troops.

“An ambush by an ISIS gunman resulted in the deaths of three Americans and injuries to three other soldiers,” CENTCOM said.

“The shooter was involved in a shootout and died,” they added.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the attack occurred while troops were “meeting with key leaders” to support counter-terrorism operations.Meanwhile, US envoy to Syria Tom Barrack said the ambush targeted a “joint US-Syrian government patrol.”

Parnell said the identities of the dead soldiers would be kept secret until their families were notified.

The incident is the frist reported since Islamist-led forces ousted Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad in December last year, reviving the country’s ties with the United States.

Syrian state news agency SANA, citing security sources, earlier reported that several US soldiers and two members of the Syrian military were injured in the attack.
