Terror Attack Kills Two Soldiers, Two Civilians Near Line of Control in Kashmir

A terror attack near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir’s Gulmarg sector claimed the lives of two soldiers and two civilian porters working with the Army on Friday. Three soldiers were also injured in the incident.

Attack Follows Security Review Meeting

The attack occurred hours after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting in Srinagar to review the security situation in the wake of recent attacks in the region.

The meeting, attended by top Army, police, paramilitary, and intelligence officers, aimed to address the escalating security concerns.

Details of the Attack

According to sources, militants targeted an Army vehicle, part of a convoy, near the Nagin post at Bota Pathri, approximately seven kilometers from the main tourist resort of Gulmarg. Bota Pathri is situated close to the LoC, with restricted civilian movement in the area.

The Army confirmed the exchange of fire but stated that details were still being ascertained.

Victims Identified

Sources identified the two porters killed in the attack as Mushtaq Ahmad and Zahoor Ahmad, both residents of Boniyar in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

Political Condemnation

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack.

“Very unfortunate news about the attack on the army vehicles in Bota Pathri area of north Kashmir which has resulted in some casualties and injuries. This recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern. I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms and send my condolences to the loved ones of the people, who lost their lives. I also pray that (the) injured make a complete and swift recovery,”

– Omar Abdullah on X (formerly Twitter)

“Shocked & deeply saddened by the militant attack on an Army convoy in Baramulla… Condemn it unequivocally and pray for the swift recovery of the injured soldiers.”

– Mehbooba Mufti

Rising Militancy in Kashmir

This attack marks the fourth militant strike in the Valley this week. It follows a series of incidents, including the killing of seven employees, including a local doctor, of APCO Infratech in an attack on their campsite at Gagangir, near Sonamarg tourist resort in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on October 20.

On October 18, a non-local worker was killed by militants in Zainapora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Earlier on October 26, a teenage non-local worker was shot at and injured by militants at Batagund village of Tral in south Kashmir.

The escalating violence in Kashmir raises concerns about the region’s security and stability.
