Bronx Zoo Welcomes a Tiny Titan: New Silvered Langur Primate Arrives
The Bronx Zoo is buzzing with excitement over its newest resident: a vibrant, baby silvered langur. Born in November, the little primate is captivating visitors with his striking orange coat, a stark contrast to the muted gray of his adult counterparts.
Belonging to the species Trachypithecus cristatus, the baby langur hails from the lush forests of Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Sadly, this species is classified as "Vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, highlighting the growing threats they face in the wild.
The Bronx Zoo has been a champion for the conservation of these fascinating creatures, successfully breeding over 100 silvered langurs in the past four decades. Known for their leafy diets and remarkable agility in the trees, these primates, often referred to as "Betrieflers," are a beloved attraction at the zoo.
Visitors to JungleWorld can witness the newborn’s playful antics as he scurries up branches and snuggles with his family.
