Montreal Film Festivals Showcase Diverse Cinematic Experiences in Late February and March

Montreal’s vibrant arts scene is set to host a series of film festivals throughout late February and March, offering a diverse range of cinematic experiences for audiences of all ages and interests. From international children’s films to Oscar-nominated shorts and cult classics, the city’s cinemas will be buzzing with activity.

Montreal International Children’s Film Festival (FIFEM)

The 29th edition of the Montreal International Children’s Film Festival (FIFEM) will take place from February 28 to March 8 at the Beaubien cinema. The festival will feature a competition showcasing films like Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake, The President’s Cake, and A Dream a Day. A selection of animated films, including The Legendaries, Space Cadet: The Celestial Odyssey, and Lydia and the Storm Ship, will also be screened throughout the week. Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake, a Spanish-French-Belgian-Chilean-Swiss co-production, is a 70-minute animated feature directed by Irene Iborra Rizo.

On Sunday, February 29, a free discovery tour of selected documentary films aimed at young audiences will be presented, with limited seating. These films will also be available on the Tënk website following the screening.

Tuesday, March 3, will observe the grand premiere of Goodbye Pluto, a Quebec film by Sarianne Cormier, as part of FIFEM. The film is scheduled for general release on March 27.

On Friday, March 6, excerpts from the podcast Let Me Tell You will be screened, followed by a discussion with the artists involved.

Other Film Events

Coats on the Bed and Boots in the Bath: Dalhousie Station in Montreal will host a new edition of this show on Saturday evening, featuring a fusion of performance and participatory sequences with the La R’voyure collective.

National Improvisation League (LNI) vs. Denis Danger: Players from the National Improvisation League will face the actors of the series Denis Danger in a traditional Youth Match at MTelus on Sunday afternoon. The series highlights martial arts films from the 1990s, with its second season launching online on Friday, March 6.

Oscar-Nominated Shorts: Cinema du Parc will begin broadcasting the short films nominated for the Oscar ceremony on February 27, offering a chance to view Quebec films The Girl Who Cried Pearls (animation) and Perfectly a Strangeness (documentary) on the big screen.

Minuit au Parc: The 10th edition of Minuit au Parc will begin at Cinema du Parc on Friday, March 6, and run until April 26. The cycle will include screenings of films such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Eraserhead, and The Harder They Come.
