Nikki Glaser Promises a Laugh-Filled, Politics-Free Golden Globes

As Nikki Glaser prepares to take the stage as host of the 82nd Golden Globes, she’s making it clear: expect comedy, not controversy. In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Glaser revealed her intention to keep the jokes lighthearted and avoid anything potentially divisive like politics or the recent It Ends With Us drama involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

Staying Away from Sensitive Topics

Glaser emphasized that she’s not looking to emulate Ricky Gervais, known for his unapologetically sharp and sometimes offensive humor during his Golden Globes hosting gigs. “I’m not Ricky Gervais,” she said. “This isn’t my last Golden Globes, this is my first one. He really went hard on his last one. He was ready to burn some bridges [because] it didn’t matter anymore.” Glaser also explained her decision to steer clear of the Lively-Baldoni controversy:

“I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be,” she said. “I also don’t want to give his name any — I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”

Glaser also plans to steer clear of politics. “People are just tired of hearing about it, even though it’s looming and it’s in the air,” she said. “There will be a nod to it, but it will not be too heavy-handed,” Glaser added, “I’ve made a good point not to go too hard.”

A Golden Globes Debut

This will be Glaser’s first time hosting the Golden Globes. In addition to her hosting gig, she is also nominated for her one-woman stand-up special Someday You’ll Die in the category of Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance.

The 82nd Golden Globes will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 7th at 8pm ET.
