NYPD Officer Sorffly Davius Dies in Kuwait Supporting U.S. Mission in Iran
The New York Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Sorffly Davius, a Major in the Army National Guard, who died Friday while deployed to Kuwait in support of the U.S. Mission in Iran. Davius suffered a fatal medical emergency at Camp Buehring in Kuwait on March 6, 2026.
A Career of Service
Officer Davius joined the NYPD in 2014 and was assigned to the 79th Precinct in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood. He also served with the 42nd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Major. Prior to his deployment, he served with Joint Task Force Empire Shield, defending high-profile locations in New York State from threats.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch released a joint statement saying, “His career was defined by service – to his country and to New York City.”
Governor Kathy Hochul stated, “Major Davius was the ‘Citizen Soldier’ in every sense. A dedicated NYPD officer and decorated Army veteran, he spent his career protecting others.” She added that his life serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by National Guard members.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Davius “an American hero” who “represents the very best of our nation.”

Officer Davius’s death occurred while he was supporting Operation Epic Fury, the U.S. Offensive against Iran. ABC7NY reports that President Trump has stated Iran may face “complete destruction.”
