Opel Corsa GSE: Electric Hot Hatch Returns with a Fresh Spark
Opel is set to revive its performance-focused Corsa model with the all-new, fully-electric Corsa GSE. This hot hatch, bearing the GSE badge, marks a significant departure from its petrol-powered predecessors, signaling Opel’s commitment to electric performance.
Reviving a Legacy with Electric Power
The Corsa GSE is positioned as the spiritual successor to the Opel Corsa OPC (and Vauxhall Corsa VXR in the UK), a model long admired for its spirited driving dynamics. However, this new iteration embraces a fully electric powertrain, aligning with Stellantis’ broader electrification strategy. The vehicle is expected to be available for order later this year. Opel CEO Florian Huettl stated the Corsa GSE combines the success of the Corsa with the high-performance and dynamics of the GSE badge.
Performance and Design Details
While Opel is keeping specific technical details under wraps, the Corsa GSE is anticipated to deliver a potent driving experience. Teaser images reveal a sporty aesthetic, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels with a distinctive three-spoke design and yellow brake calipers. Carscoops reports the car gains additional cladding around the wheel arches, echoing the Peugeot E-208 GTI.
Expect sharper design elements and potentially a slimmer Vizor grille with updated LED lighting. The Corsa GSE will likely feature redesigned bumpers and design cues inspired by the Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept.
Shared Technology and Expected Specifications
The Corsa GSE is expected to share its technical underpinnings with the Opel Mokka GSE, as well as other performance-oriented electric vehicles within the Stellantis portfolio, including the Abarth 600e, Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, Peugeot E-208 GTI, and Lancia Ypsilon HF. Electrive notes this shared platform suggests a front-mounted electric motor producing approximately 207 kW (280 PS or 278 hp) and 345 Nm (254.5 lb-ft) of torque.
Key performance enhancements are also anticipated, including a Torsen limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, and a firmer suspension setup. The battery is expected to have a gross capacity of 54 kWh, potentially offering a range of 322-370 km.
GSE Expansion and Market Position
The Corsa GSE represents an expansion of Opel’s GSE (Grand Sport Electric) model range, following the successful launch of the Mokka GSE in 2025, which won the ‘Golden Steering Wheel 2025’ award as ‘Best Small Car’. The new Corsa GSE aims to bring exciting electric performance to a broader audience, building on the popularity of the standard Corsa, which has been Germany’s best-selling small car for five consecutive years.
