Jakarta –
The Presidential Palace has acknowledged the findings of a recent survey conducted by LSI Denny JA, which indicates that a majority of Indonesian respondents oppose the implementation of an indirect regional election system through the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, stated that the government respects all viewpoints on the matter.
“We respect all opinions. Of course, there are various perspectives – some in favor, some against, and some supportive. But a final decision has not been reached,” Hadi said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
No Immediate Decision on Regional Election System
Hadi emphasized that there is no current controversy surrounding the ongoing discussion regarding the potential shift to an indirect regional election system. He indicated that the decision-making process regarding the election system will continue to evolve.
“There are no issues at the moment. We will see how things develop,” he added.

Here’s a breakdown of the survey findings:
- Disagree/Strongly Disagree: 66.1%
- Agree/Strongly Agree: 28.6%
