Arch Manning on Davey O’Brien Award Watch List

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas Football sophomore quarterback Arch Manning was named to the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Thursday. The Davey O’Brien Award is given each year to the best college quarterback in the country.

Last season, former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was a semifinalist for the award. Texas has had three players win the Davey O’Brien Award, including two quarterbacks. Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell was the first in 1977, when the award recognized the top player in the Southwest. Vince Young (2005) and Colt McCoy (2009) are the Longhorn quarterbacks who have won the award. McCoy was also a finalist in 2008.

Manning is among three dozen quarterbacks on the Davey O’Brien Award watch list.
