PinkPantheress Reveals Surprisingly Simple Production Technique for Hit Song ‘Tonight’
PinkPantheress, the British singer-songwriter and producer who recently earned the Producer of the Year award at the 2026 BRIT Awards, has shared a glimpse into her creative process, revealing she produced her song “Tonight” using only her MacBook keyboard. The track, released as the lead single from her 2023 mixtape Fancy That, demonstrates her innovative approach to music production.
From GarageBand to Logic Pro: A DIY Production Journey
In a TikTok post earlier this month, PinkPantheress detailed how she created “Tonight,” explaining her method to fans. She showcased using Logic Pro’s Musical Typing function to manually input chords directly from her keyboard. “Everyone’s been so cute about my production, so I’m going to show you how I made my song ‘Tonight’ off of ‘Fancy That’,” she said in the video. She emphasized that MIDI controllers aren’t essential, stating, “Inputting them into whatever software you use works just as well.”
PinkPantheress added bass and pitch-shifted stems before acknowledging the contribution of Count Baldor, who handled the drum production. She noted her progression from using GarageBand to Logic Pro, stating, “I used Logic, I used to use GarageBand, but we upgraded.”
Sampling and Inspiration
“Tonight” features a sample from Panic! At The Disco’s 2008 song “Do You Know What I’m Seeing?” PinkPantheress expressed her admiration for the band, writing in the TikTok caption, “Their function not only touches lives but also motivates many to pursue their dreams in the music industry.”
Recent Accolades and Upcoming Tour
PinkPantheress was named British Producer of the Year at the 2026 Brit Awards, becoming the youngest person and first woman to receive the honor [1]. She was also named Producer of the Year by Billboard Women in Music in 2024.
The artist is currently preparing for her ‘An Evening With…’ tour across the UK and Europe in May and June.
The Success of ‘Fancy That’ and ‘Illegal’
Fancy That, the mixtape featuring “Tonight,” also included the song “Illegal,” which was named NME’s song of the year. NME described “Illegal” as an “adrenaline-fuelled thrillride” that blends “winking storytelling smarts, artful sampling, cheeky culture-defining quips and dance floor-filling beats.” PinkPantheress attributed the song’s success to a TikTok trend and the timeless quality of its beat.
